Candles Paraffin
We regret to say that we are slowly phasing out our lovely and popular paraffin candles with shell grit. Some will still be available for a while, but the Cable Beach, Frangipani and Sandalwood candles are gone or nearly gone.
Why? First, because our wonderful candle maker and long time friend John Hedges died last year, and we cant bring ourselves to try and replace his work. Second, because as we have known for a long time, paraffin is actually a petrochemical by-product. And now that we make such wonderful all vegetable soy candles, there seems less need to follow this old path.
A bit of history - we have been making paraffin candles from scratch for nearly 15 years now. First we made them at home on our back verandah. Then when we moved to our new shed in Blue Haze we built a special candle verandah where candles could be made safely in the fresh air, with water and gas burners at hand. It's where our old mate John hung out with his paper and his radio. John made all our paraffin candles in moulds, actually in a very "high tech" way in plumbing pipes with bungs on one end, wicks threaded through and held in place with plasticene and halved sate sticks! This is one example of the "playful ingenuity" in our motto.
So, we are sorry to start the process of saying goodbye to a loved product. But the soy candles are fantastic and we just love making them!
The following products are available for Candles Paraffin
Moulded Paraffin Candles
Sorry - we are slowly discontinuing these - please see our reasons above. However, there are considerable stocks of some colours which we now offer at a good discount simply to clear our shelves for new products. Most are the large (15cm) candles.
All candles are 5cm in diameter and come individually labelled, cello wrapped with a raffia tie. There are 2 sizes - 10 cm and 15 cm high. The ideal way to burn these candles is in a small bowl or saucer, so there can be no spillage. Remember to remove the label, and for safety reasons never leave burning candles unattended.
